Welcoming Baby Brother: A Cozy Punta Gorda At Home Newborn Session
There is something so special about capturing the early days of a newborn's life, especially when it happens right in the comfort of a family’s home. Recently, I had the privilege of photographing a beautiful family of four: Mom, Dad, their energetic toddler son, and their brand-new baby boy.
I often go back and forth, do I open a studio and have images that are consistently brand-approved. Do I curate a space I know my clients will love. Or do I honor the time of rest and healing a postpartum family so desperately needs. I loath the idea of families lugging all 52 of their bags and a car seat + whatever else their other children may need to get through a newborn session. So I will continue honoring the idea of keeping newborn session at home, where everyone is comfortable and everyone can take a nap immediately after their session is complete. All toys are welcome here. I don’t aim for perfection. I intent to document the current season of life you’re in. I will always welcome hot wheels and toy story characters.

Capturing the Sweetest Moments
During this session, we focused on the connection between big and baby brother. It’s always a joy to see the curiosity and love that older siblings bring to these moments. Big brother was cautiously curious of me. I could tell he was warming up to be being in their home when he would bring his favorite toys and cuddled up next to baby brother for a few precious shots.
Baby brother was a dream to photograph. Swaddled snugly in soft neutral tones, during his session, he peacefully drifted off to sleep while I worked to capture every tiny detail: his delicate fingers, soft hair, and adorable yawns. These are the fleeting moments that parents cherish forever.

Creating a Relaxed Environment
With natural light streaming through the windows, we kept the session as simple and stress-free as possible. The family’s living room provided the perfect backdrop, complete with cozy blankets and sentimental decor. We also captured candid moments of Mom and Dad holding their new addition, sharing quiet, tender expressions of love.

Pro Tips for At-Home Newborn Photography Sessions
If you’re considering an at-home session, here are a few tips to help you prepare:
Light is Key: Natural light is the best for newborn photography. Choose spaces in your home with large windows or soft, indirect sunlight.
Declutter Key Areas: Don’t worry about cleaning your entire house—just tidy up the spaces where you’d like photos taken, like the nursery or living room.
Dress Comfortably: Neutral tones and soft fabrics photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family.
Be Flexible: Babies and toddlers are unpredictable, so embrace the unexpected! Some of the best moments come from unplanned interactions.
